The Two Mounds Between 14th & 16th Fairways

It has been decided to remove the two mounds between the 14th & 16th fairways. This process will commence in the week beginning Monday the 25 September and will take circa two weeks as it has to fit in with the day to day work of the course staff.

The material will be removed entirely from the current location and dumped in the rough/gorse to the left of the 16th fairway. The area under the mounds will be levelled and sown with grass seed.

The area of the mounds will be marked as “Ground Under Repair” (GUR) and will remain as GUR for the next 6 months or until the grass is sufficiently robust to withstand golfing activity.

Golf at Howth

Founded in 1916 the heath land links style course was designed by the renowned golfer and course architect James Braid, a 5 times winner of “The Open” Golf Championship who can count the design of the prestigious Kings and Queens Courses at Gleneagles amongst his greatest achievements.

James was well known for including dog leg design golf holes in his course designs and the 5th hole in particular is an excellent example of how he blended a great golf hole into the unique Howth Heathers. The exceptional views from the 16th tee are worthy of mention in any golf guide.
