GUIDE TO HOWTH GOLF COURSE – Dublin Ireland
Howth Golf course is a traditional Heathland course designed by James Brad and includes dog legs and cross over holes.
Players with handicaps of 12 or less may play the White Tees otherwise Visitors must play off the Yellow Tees.
Hole 1 Par 4
Dog leg to the Right. Hit Tee shot over the white pole in the middle of Fairway. Bunkers and Trees to right of Fairway will catch errant drives so favour the left. Players who hit the ball over 250 yards may consider a Fairway Wood or Rescue off the Tee. For Approach Shot favour the right side of the green.
Note: Tee Shot is blind so it is customary for one member of the four ball to stay in view of the first tee box until all players have hit approach shots to the Green. Please give right of way to players playing tee shots on the 2nd.
Tee Box for 2nd is back towards the sea.
Hole 2 Par 4
Dog Leg to the left with split fairways
Hit at the white stone or slightly right of it. White Stone is 200 yards uphill form the white Tee.
Note; if your tee shot is left you should walk to the right to get a view of you shot
Tee Box for 3rd is to the left of the 2nd Green
Hole 3 Par 4
Dog Leg left.
This is a long Par 4. Hit Tee Shot for the mound in the middle of the Fairway which is visible from the Tee. Green is over the top of the hill in the distance. The middle point of the stream across the fairway is 250 yards from the yellow tee box.
Note: There is public right of way for walkers across Howth golf course at this hole, when walkers are in sight please wait until they pass
Tee Box for 4th is back up the hill to the left
Hole 4 Par 3
As you see it.
Tee Box for 5th Yellow is straight after the green. White Tee Box is to right of Green and up steps
Hole 5 Par 4
This is a dog leg to the left. Hit Tee Shot straight down fairway. Green is up the hill to the left. If the carry to the green is challenging, then consider laying up to the corner which will leave a 100 yard approach shot.
Tee Box for the 6th is and elevated Tee behind the Green
Hole 6 Par 4
As you see it. Green is on the left. Favour the left side the fairway as the run of is to the left.
Tee box for 7th is beside the green.
Hole 7 Par 5
Fairway is the right of water hazard and left of trees. Green is on top of Hill in the distance. Tee shot use centre of Fairway for approach shots favour the left side.
Tee Box for the 8th is to the right of the 7th Green and down the path
Hole 8 Par 3
Green in front of you. There are open water drains (Hazards) on front left and right
Tee Box for 9th is back towards the Sea and is a 150 yard walk. Follow the path and the signs
Hole 9 Par 4
Greens straight down the Hill and is a short par 4. The Green is drivable for some and is a call on hole. For your drive favour the left hand side. The Green is sloped towards the Sea so take care with approach shots.
Tee Box for the 10th is to left of the green.
Hole 10 Par 4
Hole is uphill and though the gap. Hit Drive for top of hill. Consider hitting less than Driver to avoid trouble left and right. Favour the left for approach shot to Green
Next Tee Box is about 100 yards behind the green follow signs
Hole 11 Par 4
Straight up the Hill with Green is the distance.
Note: The 11th and 17th Fairways cross, please allow players on the 17th proceed first.
Next Tee Box is back left and follow pathway to elevated Tee box.
Hole 12 Par 4
Green is the distance with Bunkers left and right. Water hazard to left at about 300 yards from tee. Hit Tee shot right of centre.
Next Hole, To the right of Green Follow path and signposts
Hole 13 Par 4
Long Par 4 with double tiered Green. For second shot favour the right hand side of Fairway
Next Hole: Tee Box behind 13th Green
Hole 14 Par 4
Dog Leg to the left. Tee Shot slightly to the left of White pole in the middle of the Fairway. Ensure Fairway is free before you tee off.
Next Tee: to the left and behind Green
Hole 15 Par 3
Favour the right with tee shot. There is water hazard left of the Green
Next Tee: to the left.
Hole 16 Par 4
Green is on top of the hill to left. Drive for middle of Fairway. For approach shot favour the left side of the green.
Next Tee: Straight down path behind the 16th Green.
Hole 17 Par 4
Dog Leg left. Optimum line for your drive is at the steps in the distance. There is an open drain in front of the steps. The Heathland to the left is out of bounds. Favour the left side of the green for approach shot.
Note: Beware of players coming up the 11th Fairway.
Next Tee: To the left going back towards clubhouse
Hole 18 Par 4
Dog Leg Left. Hit Drive for end of Club House. Beware of hitting too much club as clubhouse surrounds are out of bounds. Favour Right hand side of green as Green Slopes towards Clubhouse.
