ILGU CHANGE OF POLICY ON DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES (DMDs)
The Board of the ILGU has decided to change its policy on the use of DMDs in 2013 whereby the Generic Conditions will be amended to permit the use of DMDs at all ILGU events provided that the DMDS conform to the Regulations as set down by the R&A.
At club Level, DMDs may only be used if Local Rules of the club permit use of same.
Local Rule – Howth Ladies Golf Club
Further to the ILGU change of policy on the use of DMDs, Howth Ladies Golf Club has decided to permit the use of DMDs with immediate effect as follows;
In all competitions organised and run at Howth Golf Club by Howth Ladies Golf Club, a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. If, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect her play, (e.g. Gradient, Wind Speed, Temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional function is actually used.

Hon. Secretary
Founded in 1916 the heath land links style course was designed by the renowned golfer and course architect James Braid, a 5 times winner of “The Open” Golf Championship who can count the design of the prestigious Kings and Queens Courses at Gleneagles amongst his greatest achievements.
James was well known for including dog leg design golf holes in his course designs and the 5th hole in particular is an excellent example of how he blended a great golf hole into the unique Howth Heathers. The exceptional views from the 16th tee are worthy of mention in any golf guide.
Take the Tour
Howth Golf Club is the perfect blend of old and new. Traditional and modern trends have helped maintain the character of the golf course originally envisaged by James Braid.
