IRELAND’S FUNNIEST MAN COMING TO HOWTH GOLF CLUB
We all need a good laugh every so often and members and friends who come along to our first Autumn 2014 Theatre Evening on Saturday, October 18th are certainly guaranteed they will go home having witnessed a hilarious evening in the company of Ireland’s funniest man, Jon Kenny.
Limerick man Jon Kenny was one half of the famous Irish comic duo D’Unbelievables with Pat Shortt. They were hugely successful together, touring extensively nationally and internationally, until 2000, when Jon was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease. He made a successful recovery and is now busy doing numerous gigs entertaining audiences all over Ireland.
This year he is back with his hilarious critique of contemporary Ireland in this brand new show. Jon has a marvellous eye for the ridiculousness of much in Irish life and takes his audience on a laugh-filled journey as he explores the excesses of the boom years and the madness which influenced how rural and urban Ireland behaved over the past number of years. We would warn that in his enthusiasm, as he takes on the persona of the raw Irish farmer, Jon is often known to break into strong rural language and what might be called adult content. It is a night then for those who might be upset by the odd swear word, and the under 16’s, to stay at home.
Apart from D’Unbelievables, Pat was a big hit in “Father Ted” where he played Michael, the cinema owner in “The Passion of St Tibulus” and as presenter Fred Rickwood in “Song for Europe”. Many people will also remember his straight-acting role as Monsieur Thenardier in the 1998 film version of “Les Miserables”.
Tickets at D’Unbelieveable €15 will go on sale in the Club Bar mid next week. Get in early to avoid disappointment.

EILEEN GILROY

Founded in 1916 the heath land links style course was designed by the renowned golfer and course architect James Braid, a 5 times winner of “The Open” Golf Championship who can count the design of the prestigious Kings and Queens Courses at Gleneagles amongst his greatest achievements.
James was well known for including dog leg design golf holes in his course designs and the 5th hole in particular is an excellent example of how he blended a great golf hole into the unique Howth Heathers. The exceptional views from the 16th tee are worthy of mention in any golf guide.
