WINTER RULES 2012 (Placing and Dropping) come into effect this Saturday 3rd of November 2012.
Howth Golf Club
Winter Rules 2012/13
1. A ball lying on a closely mown area through the green (fairway) may be lifted, cleaned and placed within 6 inches not nearer the hole without penalty. The position of the ball must be marked before lifting and when placed and comes to rest it is again in play.
2. A ball in play in the mown rough, may be dropped within one club length not nearer the hole without penalty. The postion of the ball must be marked before lifting.
3. Where relief is taken a ball lying in the rough must be dropped and STRIKE THE GROUND in the rough.
4. A ball in play in any unmown rough or in the heather and gorse, or in ANY GRASSY AREA within the heather and gorse must be played as it lies. Any relief taken is under penalty as provided under the rules of golf 2012 – 2015.
5. A ball when dropped is in play (Rule 20-4) and can not be re-dropped unless any of the conditions of (Rule 20-2c) apply, e.g. nearer hole, on to putting green, comes to rest more than two club-lengths from where it first struck the course, etc.
All other rules of golf apply, cleaning, marking subsequently moving etc.
These winter rules apply until further notice

Please note that we will be spraying the greens to treat the current fusarium this Thursday morning 1st November 2012.
The spray being used is non toxic and a green dye indicator, also non toxic, will be used to mark the areas sprayed.
Please note that this dye may stick to items of clothing and golf equipment should the ground conditions remain moist / wet.

Founded in 1916 the heath land links style course was designed by the renowned golfer and course architect James Braid, a 5 times winner of “The Open” Golf Championship who can count the design of the prestigious Kings and Queens Courses at Gleneagles amongst his greatest achievements.
James was well known for including dog leg design golf holes in his course designs and the 5th hole in particular is an excellent example of how he blended a great golf hole into the unique Howth Heathers. The exceptional views from the 16th tee are worthy of mention in any golf guide.
